O you brown Negro, you the unknown who fought
The forces of darkness to welcome the light.
Your resilience, your strength of character, your courage
Make me raise my head with pride.
When the conscience awakens, it is to cry Freedom.
No shame for the one who wants to be free.
Stripped of the old man, stripped of all defilement,
You walk with great steps towards your freedom.
You lead your brothers and sisters in the fight for Life.
Proud, haughty, you leave us the seal of dignity.
Someone can kill the body but not a free spirit.
Your defenseless children can be humiliated and belittled,
But in them you will rise from your ashes.
Through you, humanity becomes one and indivisible.
Through you, shame changes sides.
To belittle a brother is to belittle oneself.
O you, brown Negro, who broke
The chains of injustice and shame,
I embrace with pride the road you have traced for us.
The road is long and bumpy but
I stand with a proud look, I sing of freedom.
Never again will I bow my head to your glorious past.
I raise my head with my brothers and sisters
To continue this path towards freedom.
Thank you Brown Negro!
